Gogglebox #41: Beyonce - 'Run The World (Girls)' Live at Billboard Awards

By: Fred Mikardo-Greaves

Not content with being merely the biggest-selling female act of the century, Beyonce is now literally attempting to take over the world. I'm sure you've all heard 'Run the World (Gurrrrrrrlz)' by now, and anyone with a pair of testicles has been sent running for the hills by Beyonce's hyper-aggressive, Diplo-enhanced swagger. The official video was a barn-storming homage to female empowerment and the womanly ability to dance menacingly at uniformed men, and this performance from the recent 2011 Billboard Awards picks up where that one left off. Beyonce, as she says herself, 'runs this mother', and live the track is souped up into some sort of post-Feminist monster of flashing lights and stilettos. It is, if nothing else, very impressive. Either side of the clip, we get people close to Beyonce (and, well, Bono) waxing lyrical about Mrs. Knowles' remarkable career thus far. Girl done good.
