Gogglebox Watch Damon Albarn - Apple Carts
By: Stan Morgan

Oh Damon, you talented so and so. Not content with helping invent Brit Pop, turning a bunch of cartoons into musical superstars, writing an opera based on Chinese mythology, trying his hand at African music etc. etc., Mr Albarn has decided to turn his attention toward English folk music.
This track comes from the forthcoming opera Dr. Dee, based around the life of Elizabethan mathematician/astronomer/astrologer/enigma John Dee, and sees Damon pick his way through a nice little acoustic number, backed by medieval instruments that are probably near-impossible for the modern man to play.
Even though it sounds like he may break into ‘Scarborough Fair’ at any moment, the unusualness of the song is its main draw, completely different from anything Albarn has attempted in the past. It’s unlikely this track alone will ignite a rejuvenation of ‘proper’ pastoral folk sung by people with beards (men and women), but it shits all over Mumford and Sons.
