Field Day: 10 Tips

By: Mike Harounoff

Field Day is on Saturday and it'd seem most of London is planning on jumping on the tube over to Victoria Park for a day of the best, the actual best, left field music out there. This is all exciting but when a festival boasts a line up that strong, what do you go and see? Don't worry about it, we've got your back. Here's ten not to miss.

Actress
Actress goes in hard, hard and dark with his deep mix of dub, jungle, juke, techno and future garage backed up with a ton of noise, emerging as something alarmingly beautiful. It'll be an experience.

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti
It is generally understood and agreed upon in certain circles who don't like to attribute a name to themselves that Ariel Pink is one of the songwriters of his generation. What's best is that Mr.Pink filters his songwriting genius through the ever interesting world of near constant narcotics, and leaves us with music we can hardly fathom. It's ace on record, even better live. If he can keep it together.

Connan Mockasin
Quite possibly the weirdest man of all time, Connan Mockasin is also a genius. A brilliant artist and musician, he's New Zealand's answer to Syd Barrett, yet still he remains devastatingly underrated.

Ducktails
It's completely it's own world, with enough songs to keep you going for about a week. It doesn't hurt that Matt Mondanile, who also features in Real Estate, is also one of the best guitarist's we've come across in a while and nails it everytime.

Jamie XX
You might as well, right? He's produced some of the remixes of the year, is always good on the Boiler Room and the last time I saw him to play - to 15 people in a Dalston pub - he nailed it. Chances are, to a lot more people at a festival, it'll be killer.

Pearson Sound
Hessle Audio's Pearson Sound is currently the most exciting of the more established electronic musicians kicking it around now. He's so worryingly ahead of everything else that he simply can't be trusted. Maybe you shouldn't go and see him? No, definitely go.

SBTRKT
The masked producer's self titled debut is one of RFB's records of the year, and it translates wonderfully live with Sampha's strong vocal alongside SBTRKT's live drums and programming. Fingers crossed for Jessie Ware turning up on 'Right Thing To Do'.

The Horrors
The past few albums have seen The Horrors quite simply become a brilliant band, and any opportunity to see them play live should be taken - as we've seen previous years, Field Day is a fine context for it.

Warpaint
What better way to toast your love affair with Warpaint than to see them play what could be their most triumphant gig so far? We'll be front and centre, swooning.

Wild Beasts
Seriously, how good will this be? Wild Beasts have finally reached their optimum potential, and in doing so are rasing that bar each time. A set of songs from all three records will be an exciting and emotinal journey to join them on.
