imageHappy New Year,

Or is it?

Please, please help all the victims of the Boxing Day tsunami by providing your donations. Please refer to the prior-posted rockfeedback news-story for further info.

Musically, however, let's endeavour that affairs are brighter.

2002-2004 have been the years that the term renaissance has marked a mere, inane understatement. And '05 will be the zenith. With new, invigorated independent labels forming all the time, the 'net becoming the finest source to discover new talent and purchase music, a succession of new bands we can recommend at a drop of the hat without even pondering - Snow White, The Longcut, Maximo Park - cropping up about the place, and acts such as Franz set to return with new material, the impending twelve months are going to be a thrilling place to lurk. And just wait for Bloc Party's album to drop. Whoa.

So, to celebrate, we're updating our new talent guide, Bandwatch. Either very soon or now you'll be able to purvey new sections on some acts you may have read about previously on rockfeedback, mostly via this very column - the messy (d)art-punk of Test-Icicles, rabid soul-massacre of The Noisettes, and ferocious anthemery of Nine Black Alps (the first rockfeedback Band of the Week of 2005, no less). Stay tuned for interviews / features / stories on all. We may even try and rope in a couple to play The Basement Club this year, which returns later this month on Jan 27th; line-up to be announced next week.

However, the first live-gig of the year we can vehemently recommend is of our Transgressive Records' showcase debuting at the Barfly, featuring three acts from the label performing live - the Xfm-John Kennedy/BBC 6 Music-Steve Lamacq played Ladyfuzz; current media-darlings Mystery Jets; and Playlouder-revered urchins Burning Pilot - plus the likes of rockfeedback Xmas Party headliner Tom Vek DJ-ing, plus special guests. The first essential gig-pick of 2005. And that occurs next week, on Tuesday 11th January, tickets only a fiver each. Buy them in advance now by clicking here.

The year's still yet to really get going, so no London gig-guide this week, and the same can be said for the charts (save for new entries in at 37 and 38 respectively by Jet and 'Get Me Outta Here' plus Secret Machines and 'Sad & Lonely'), so we'll return next week with all the usual in a typically bumper Weekly Editorial.

'Til then, enjoy the merits of returning to work, won't you. *Ugh*
