imageJetsetters,

... We are. Sort of. Off to By:Larm industry conference in Norway shortly (gigs on mountains and next to fjords, anyone? Yes, please...) - so must be brief; full info on how that goes in next week's column... Any news in the meantime? Oh yeah, Scissor Sisters are headlining V in the summer, Peter Doherty is out of prison (slipping past waiting journos without 'em even noticing - good work, Pete) following assault charges, Bloc Party's essential debut-LP 'Silent Alarm' is out on Monday (thanks for the big-up, fellas)... and, oh, everyone source out Arcade Fire and their Rough Trade LP; it's genius.

Gigs this week, London: Adam Green is set to enthral London at the Islington Academy (Tues 8th; sold out); Death From Above 1979 make a blues-grunge-dance-neo-riot racket in Highbury's Garage (Thurs 10th; sold out); Ed Harcourt and strings make a beautiful commotion in Piccadilly's St James Church (Sat 12th; sold out); Kasabian, Babyshambles (good luck, bro...) and Goldie Lookin' Chain carve it up at Brixton's Academy on Thurs 10th (£20:60); Bloc Party, The Killers, The Kaiser Chiefs and The Futureheads pack out the aforementioned on Weds (9th; sold out); The Knife do their camp, arty shtick at the poky ICA (Tues 8th; sold out); The Ordinary Boys, The Subways and Eastern Lane play the Astoria on Sunday (13th; £13:10); The Kills slay before a sold out Electric Ballroom (Weds 9th); London try-harders The Paddingtons attempt the Borderline (Thurs 10th; £7:00); Tom Vek fills the 100 Club (Tues 8th; sold out); The Rifles go underground at the Metro on Thursday (10th; £5:00); and Yourcodenameis:milo and special guests infiltrate Camden's Koko (Friday 11th; £8:00).

The week's charts, UK-wise: Bloc Party score that breakthrough-hit with 'So Here We Are' and 'Positive Tension'; 22-20s' 'Such A Fool' grounds at 29; a revived Wedding Present return at 34; Head Automatica make 44 with 'Beating Heart Baby'; 'The Libertine' by the enigmatic, quite promising Patrick Wolf goes in at 67; and Ga Gas score 71. Albums - the battle of the soft-rockers leaves Feeder at number-two with 'Pushing The Senses' and Athlete on top with 'Tourist'; while Lemon Jelly's '64-'95' is 17; and The Others hop in at a modest 51.

Current listening, rockfeedback stylee: Beck's return; RTX; and those four brand-new acts set to grace this month's Basement Club (info in banner above... have a click; it's selling out quickly, so reserve sooner rather than later).

We'll bid you adieu; have a great seven days.
