Highbury Buffalo Bar - Compilation-Release: Imminent
By: Toby L
The Buffalo Bar in Islington - one of London's foremost, acclaimed small venues - is releasing a double CD-compilation to mark its first three years of lo-fi scene-nurturing.
The site for rockfeedback's cult, monthly Basement Club event, the 150-capacity room has seen much legend in its time - not least rockfeedback-promoted sets from The Libertines (performing for an entire three hours), Keane (in the week they debuted in the top-three), Bloc Party (two times whilst unsigned), plus The Futureheads, Regina Spektor, The Zutons, Hope of the States, and DJs inclusive of Rough Trade's Geoff Travis, Radio One's Zane Lowe, Boy George, plus many more.
'Sound Issues', the release, is out in mid-April via the venue's own Buffalo Recordings imprint (distributed nationally in the UK), and features tracks/sleeve-notes selected by all the promoters - also inclusive of cult labels/media Artrocker and Guided Missile; artists featured on the release number the aforementioned Bloc Party and Regina Spektor, plus influential undergrounders Billy Mahonie, The Buff Medways, Mclusky, Kaito, Part Chimp, Martha Wainwright, The National, Oneida and Scout Niblett.
That it's an imperative purchase shouldn't go unuttered. The launch-gig for the event occurs this evening (Friday 1st April) at the venue, and features live-sets from Kaito, Todd and the especially reformed Billy Mahonie.
