Week Commencing: 8/8/05

Enjoying the sun?
We would be, if we weren't quite so locked up in our office performing 12-13 hour days at the moment (I got home at midnight the other day!).
But, y'know, we're on a mission from (the proverbial rock-)God. We're hoping you're enjoying our deluges of rockfeedback-associated uploads (whether recent club-night reports; toilet-circuit synopsises; or festival summaries; or our diverse coverage of some Tmobile instant gigs - linky - from salacious, new scribe, Michael Lewin). Now, to make up for lost time, let's provide some recommended gig activity in the capital this week, plus the latest charts. And our current playlist. It's been a while, hasn't it?
Gigs this week, London: The Rakes continue to soar, in light of the impending release of their actually-stunning, debut LP, 'Capture/Release', plus support from victorious, anthemic types Battle - catch them at Mean Fiddler (Weds 10th Aug; sold out); the same night sees !!! (Chk Chk Chk; sold out) at 100 Club; Devendra Banhart performs at the Bandstand, Regent's Park on Weds 10th (shh!), for free, or the following eve at Koko in Camden (Thurs 11th £13:50); ex-Arab Strap genius Malcolm Middleton reaches the Soho Borderline (Thurs 11th; £8:00); The Organ strut their stuff at Metro on Thurs 11th (sold out); and Ed Harcourt's alter-ego rock outfit Wild Boar bludgeon the Barfly with death-rock t(h)reats for a mere fiver (Thurs 11th).
The current rockfeedback Playlist: Good Shoes demos are entertaining; The Rumble Strips entertain, as do My Latest Novel. The new Mystery Jets single, 'You Can't Fool Me Dennis', is a mild classic, too.
UK Chart-action, this week: James Blunt infuriates the country by remaining number-one. Again. With 'You're Beautiful'; The Rakes sneak into the top-30 at 28 with 'Work Work Work (Pub Club Sleep)'; recent Basement Club headliners Morning Runner manage 39 with debut 45 proper 'Gone Up In Flames'; Test Icicles' 'Boa Vs Python' is 46; the limited-edition, yet sumptuous, 'Cold Wind' from Arcade Fire is a surprise 52; 'Your Own Religion' via Alfie obtains 61, a place above Turin Brakes' disappointingly-performing 'Over & Over'.
More soon. See you at V Festival and Secret Garden next weekend. We're also in NYC for a second trip soon. And rockfeedback turns five next month. Get your party-poppers ready.
