Week Commencing: 9/11/05

Well, well, well,
We've been naughty. And been away for a bit.
And in our absence of the Editorial, we return to find that we're:
... Throwing a New Year's Party in conjunction with our add-on, might-as-well-give-it-a-go Transgressive Records, featuring corking live-sets, special guest DJs, and all the usual pandemonium such turns of the year suggest. Click here to buy tickets and for further info.
Arctic Monkeys are, almost, the biggest band everywhere, having even upgraded venues on their debut US dates due before the end of '05.
And The Basement Club turned three year's old, with a mammothly-attended, birthday cake-strewn event at the end of last month (which those aforementioned Monkeys even joined us for in the audience), which heralded a further twelve months and future of shockingly decent live-music pushing from da scene. Full report due very shortly.
And we're sure it's worth mentioning that rockfeedback will be taking a seat on a Zane Lowe-hosted MTV2: Review of 2005 year discussion-show next month in order to ASSess what's been a thrilling year in music. What's more, production on our 'rockfeedback tv' series begins imminently, with a view for broadcasting on MTV2 Europe next year. How thrilling. More info here.
Otherwise, let's dispense with the waffle, and begin with some latest chart action.
UK Chart-Action, this week: Those Arctic's lost their top spot to two in the singles-charts; 'Bush (or Kate Bush, properly) has returned, creeping back at 8 (last week: #4); Goldfrapp have squeezed in at nine with 'Number 1' (maybe next time, glamma-pusses); Fightstar's 'Grand Unification' (Part 1) is 20; The Rakes' '22 Grand Job' is 39; Nine Black Alps and 'Just Friends' are 52; The Kills provide 'No Wow' at 53; 'Alsatian' from White Rose Movement is 54; and Saint Etienne have peruse the number seventy slot with 'A Good Thing'. Alanis Morissette made 65 with 'Crazy', if you were wondering. Albums - the 'Greatest Hits'(?) of Blink 182 nab the six spot; the putridly-titled 'Rosenrot' from Rammstein is 29; 'Generation' from Audio Bullys sneaks 33; Nirvana's 'Sliver' collection is just 56; The Paddingtons manage 65 with 'First Comes First'; and Test Icicles with barmy debut 'For Screening Purposes Only' obtain a suitably ridiculous, ahem, 69.
The key London gigs, this week: iForward Russia! wow the Barfly on Monday (£7:00; 14th); Acoustic Ladyland, with an all-star cast support-bill snag the ULU (Friday 11th; £12:00); Architecture In Helsinki headline the Scala on Sunday (13th; £8:50); Buck 65 fills the ULU on Thursday (10th; £9:00); Four Tet and Explosions In The Sky complete a f**king enticing bill at the sold out Hammersmith Palais on Friday (11th); Guillemots, freshly signed, entrance the warming confines of the Brixton Windmill (Weds 9th; £5:00); the lauded Irish ones, Humanzi, grace the Barfly (Weds 9th; £5:00); easygoing NYC pop minstrels Nada Surf are back, at the Scala (Mon 14th; £12:00); Martha Wainwright is performing a big'un at Shepherd's Bush Empire (Sat 12th; £14:50); Melt Banana provide a rare intrusion of our shores at the Highbury Garage (which we can see out of our office window) on Thursday 10th (£10:00); New Order and Battle knock it out at the Brixton Academy on Thursday 10th (a whopping £35:00); Mylo no doubt drops some form of pressure at the Academy also this week, only on Friday (12th; a late one - sold out); and another at that venue - Sigur Ros storm a sold out venue, too (Weds 9th); tipped US newcomers Nightmare Of You ravage temples at a sold out Barfly (Thurs 10th); The Pipettes do their biggest headline in the capital yet, to the 100 Club (Tues 15th; £7:50); The Subways continue their ascent, packing the Kentish Town Forum out on Sat (12th; sold out); and The White Stripes finish their Lahndan gigs at the Ally Pally (sold out; Weds 9th).
Wick-bo. Speak to yo' soon, yar?
