Basement 5th Birthday: Ed Harcourt headlines, Cut Off Your Hands just added!

By: Thomas Hannan

Ed Harcourt

Well done to those of you who guessed it - yes, our headliner for Thursday's Basement Club 5th anniversary show is none other than ED HARCOURT (pictured above, MYSPACE), long time friend to Rockfeedback, and the ears of the country in general. An acclaimed, loved, Mercury nominated musician when he graced the stage for our first ever Basement Club back in November of 2002, he's shot to even greater things since, selling hundreds of thousands of records worldwide and playing the prestigious Koko venue over in Camden Town a few days prior to returning to our place for this intimate, celebratory affair. Gawd bless him. At the Buffalo Bar on Highbury Corner in Islington, London, this Thursday (October 25th), Ed will spearhead a line up which already features this fine bunch (and might just contain space to grow yet...):

Noah and the Whale

NOAH AND THE WHALE: With one triumphant Basement Club set already in the bag, Noah and his Whale return after initially wowing us all with his powerful brand of contemporary folk - deft, witty and inescapably tuneful - for another go at claiming our hearts. Be prepared to tenderly embrace friends, family and folk you've never even met. MYSPACE.

Elviin

ELVIIN: Fresh off the road with Jack Penate, Elviin's soulfully-tinged storytelling is part of the new wave of sterling, homegrown solo singer-songwriters that is lining London streets at the moment - Elviin also recently inked a deal with Virgin, and is set to become a big name to watch in 2008. MYSPACE.

Josephine Oniyama

JOSEPHINE ONIYAMA: Not dissimilar to Elviin, Josephine is a mesh between contemporary indie songwriting, being a huge fan of Iron & Wine, but also something far more traditionally aligned. Travelling from Manchester for the performance, she is also a fresh new signing - to Island records. MYSPACE.

Cut Off Your Hands

!!!STOP PRESS!!!:

... And the final, fifth band for this Thursday's Basement Club have just been announced - the hi-ener-gee, party-pop assault of much-revered, buzzy newcomers CUT OFF YOUR HANDS, who'll be playing a late-night set to close proceedings following headliner Ed Harcourt has lamented, touched and freaked us. The New Zealand outfit have just performed Iceland's Airwaves festival, and got off the road with Foals - who co-headlined last year's 4th anniversary of The Basement Club, as it happens. They are also fresh signings to 679, home of The Streets and Mystery Jets. Now that's what we call an end to a mother-f**king birthday. Hang around, and dance. MYSPACE

So, that's those five (five bands for five years, geddit?), along with DJing courtesy of Tom and the Rockfeedback team, and some other surprises up our sleeve. There's a lot up our sleeves these days. It becomes difficult to type.

Tickets for the event cost £7.00 and are available by emailing thebasement@rockfeedback.com, or by following the instructions on THIS PAGE, which also includes a detailed list of past line ups. They must be reserved prior to the event. Doors open at 8pm and we don't close 'em 'til late, but we heartily recommend getting there early to guarantee entry.

Happy birthday to us!
