Nirvana ‘Unplugged’ set to get DVD release
By: Thomas Hannan

No, we hadn't seen 'Nirvana: Unplugged in New York' in the MTV schedules of late either, despite a time a couple of years ago where it seemed to be on every half an hour. To combat its absence from our satellite screens, the seminal performance filmed shortly before the untimely death of frontman Kurt Cobain finally gets its long demanded by fans DVD release on November 19th.
Despite it being all over the telly for years, and being a thing of true quality, grit and beauty - the album it birthed won a Grammy for 'Best Alternative Music Album' in 1996 - the set has never actually been released on DVD, VHS, Betamax or even those cylindrical spinny things that old people used to watch moving images in. Basically, you could never but it on video. To make the deal even sweeter, as is the fashion, the DVD will feature the complete one hour, six minute gig in Dolby Stereo and 5.1 Surround sound and comes with two songs never before broadcast - versions of 'Oh Me' and 'Something In The Way'. You also get rehearsal footage of 'Come As You Are', 'Polly' and 'Pennyroyal Tea', interviews with the band and a glance at them larking around backstage.
The full tracklisting? This is it:
About A Girl
Come As You Are
Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam
The Man Who Sold The World
Pennyroyal Tea
Dumb
Polly
On A Plain
Something In The Way
Plateau
Oh Me
Lake Of Fire
All Apologies
Where Did You Sleep Last Night
If only there were some big festival which necessitated the giving of gifts to friends and loved ones over winter, this kind of thing would be perfect.
Wait a minute...
