Peter Hook, Lightspeed Champion, Friendly Fires, Air Traffic for JD Set Double Bill

By: Thomas Hannan

Lightspeed Champion

The JD Set is an annually occurring series of shows taking place nationwide focusing on bringing underground musical talent to the forefront. Launched in 2002, the people of Jack Daniels have hosted gigs from the likes of CSS, Kate Nash, Cold War Kids, Hot Club De Paris, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and our own beloved Transgressive Publishing darlings The Noisettes.

Now in its fifth year, it's been decided that things need kicking off with a bang. As such, two nights will take place at The Luminaire in Kilburn, North London, the first collecting Air Traffic, Lightspeed Champion (pictured above)and Friendly Fires on a single stage on November 8th and the second lumping The Courteeners, New York Fund and Vincent Vincent and the Villains on to a bill together a mere 24 hours later.

Both nights are hosted and presented by the suddenly very busy again Joy Division / New Order bass leg-end Peter Hook, who even threatens that he "might even get on stage to join in for a track or two". That'd certainly make for good telly, so it's a good job said events are being filmed for a Channel 4 show hitting your screens and mine next year.

Tickets for the shows are priced £8.00 and are available from www.wegottickets.com. Doors open at 7.30 and close at 1.00am on Thursday, 2.00am on Friday. You'll even be treated to a free drink upon arrival, courtesy of Jack Daniels.

After its London debut, the double bill JD Sets will occur at the Spring and Airbrake in Belfast (30th November & 1st December), Newcastle's Cluny (24th & 25th January) and the Night and Day in Manchester (21st & 22nd February), with further gigs to be announced in Glasgow and Nottingham.
