Curses! A new Animal Collective EP in May

By: James Orange

Animal Collective

After barely a pause since 2007's best-albums-of-the-year-list-featuring Strawberry Jam Animal Collective are ready to release even more musical excellence in the form of their new Water Curses EP, out on the 5th of May. Kicking back against the varied aural palette of that last album these four new tracks will apparently present a more pared down sound - which probably means it'll still be ten times more intricate and exciting than most of the year's releases so far.

If you really want to try and imagine what they've got in store for you (since when did that ever work?) then we'll have to fall back on the trusty press release. A few phrases found therein include: 'carousel and calyps', 'boosters of Gospel organ', 'spaced out holler' and 'the sound of a smil'. Live, the band will be at the Explosions in the Sky curated ATP in May before performing four nights around the UK and finally heading over to Spain's Primavera festival at the end of the month; or, in a little more detail:

Sun 18-May-08 UK Minehead ATP (Explosions In The Sky)

Mon 19-May-08 UK Dublin Tripod

Tue 20-May-08 UK Glasgow Oran Mor

Wed 21-May-08 UK Leeds Brudenell Room

Thu 22-May-08 UK London Koko
