Raconteurs don’t want you to know about their new LP

By: James Orange

Raconteurs

The Raconteurs are not-so-happy to announce that they will be unveiling their second album: Consolers of The Lonely. 'Not-so-happy' because they intended the release to work as an experiment in backward marketing; getting the record into the shops (both physical and online) and only then beginning to promote it.

The idea is to give everyone the chance to listen without prejudice or expectation and simply to get to the material out to fans as soon as humanly possible. There will be no bonus tracks, no differences between the various formats, no interviews, no press junkets, no radio play, no photographs and no single preceding the album.

In fact the only reason you are able to read this right now is that someone somewhere felt the whole thing could be a touch confusing for you - as shops have to pre-order and stock the product the rumour mill would inevitably start turning, so they'd rather be a little (little) bit open about things. And at the end of the day, why get the album to fans ASAP if none of the fans know about it?

For fear of over-defining the record for you before it reaches your blessed ears I shall say no more.
