Malcolm Middleton doesn’t like drinking
By: Chris Helsen

Self-styled grumpy bloke Malcolm Middleton has directed his vitriolic but not inconsiderable song writing talents at the nation's drinking habits. Yes, they're all very well when giving introspective adolescents hard-ons in American Beauty, but it turns out that despite dancing majestically in the breeze, plastic bags are far from beautiful when used to carry booze home from the offy.
Well that's the view of Middleton, who releases the anti-anthem 'Blue Plastic Bags' on 28th April (wait a second, that's - today!). The song pretty effectively sums up the apathy of millions - it can't be that bad if we're all doing it - and wraps it up in a touching, and surprisingly uplifting sing-along ballad.
Middleton says: "As a nation, we're all drinking too much. Not the binge drinking of the '90s, but the sneaky, innocent couple every night. If the fridge is empty at 9.30pm, you start sweating and run out and buy some for just in case." Well, it's important to get some exercise, Malcolm.
The single, taken from Middleton's fourth solo album Sleight Of Heart will be released on 7" blue vinyl and download and comes backed with a cover of King Creosote's 'Marguerita Red'.
