John & Jehn, Munch Munch + My Sad Captains for 26/6 Basement Club

By: Thomas Hannan

Another week, another rock solid bill of Rockfeedback live activity.

For the next instalment in our Basement Club series, we've managed to coax the following acts down the stairs of the Buffalo Bar...

John & Jehn

JOHN AND JEHN - This Paris by way of London duo are very much in love. It shows in their cheeky glances, sultry co-dependence and an on stage chemistry most other bands would kill for. It's also evident in each note on every track on their self titled debut album. But this is love, not lovey-dovey - think more Serge Gainsbourg, Scott Walker and Nick Cave than Disney Princesses and happy endings. All the more reason to fall in love with it. http://www.myspace.com/johnandjehn

Munch Munch

MUNCH MUNCH -

These three Bristolians, featured to amazing effect on David Shrigley's Worried Noodles compilation, do a lot of wrong, wrong things to pop songs. So why does it sound so good? Is it because there is no sweeter coupling of words in the English language than 'two drummers'? That there's no better word in German than 'glockenspiel'? Or just because this is as entertaining as chaos can get? Kindred spirits include the likes of Deerhoof, Buttonhead and Animal Collective. Arch enemies include boredom, mundanity and formula. http://www.myspace.com/munchmunchband

My Sad Captains

MY SAD CAPTAINS -

Making their return to the Basement Club after doing the souls of everyone in attendance last time a huge amount of good through their deft blend of classic English pop songwriting with a charming nonchalance and great taste in jumpers, My Sad Captains return this time as the finished article. Recent singles 'Bad Decisions' and 'All Hat No Plans' have proved that they're probably the most melodiously talented band in Britain at the minute. Fans of Pavement and Grandaddy can now finally stop crying about their favourite band not being together any more. http://www.myspace.com/mysadcaptains

All that plus Rockfeedback DJs will be taking place at the Buffalo Bar in London on Highbury Corner, N1, right next door to Highbury and Islington tube station on Thursday 26th June, from 8pm - 2am.

Tickets cost £6.00 in advance by emailing names to thebasement@rockfeedback.com
