Boredoms do 88 BoaDrum!
By: Dan Monsell
Wowzah do we wish we lived in the US right now. Not only do we want a proper cream cheese bagel and some Apple Jacks cereal (seriously that stuff is like crack), Japanese noiseniks the Boredoms have announced that they're going to stage another one of their tons-of-people drum-a-thon events, not just in New York but LA too. After last year's Brooklyn Bridge Park 77BoaDrum event, they're following it up by adding another 99 drummers and a whole other city. Mad stuff.
At 8.08 pm PST at LA's famous La Brae tar pits, 88 drummers personally selected by the drummers will perform an 88 minute live experience conducted by the Boredoms and artistic director Hisham Baroocha from Soft Circle (formerly of Lightning Bolt and Black Dice).
Across the country at 8.08 EST, 808 BoaDrum New York will take place on the Williamsburg Waterfront with a whole other set of 88 personally selected drummers. In the absence of the Boredoms there, the event will be run by Brooklyn's Gang Gang Dance and organized by music director Ryan Sawyer (Tall Firs). Both pieces are the same one, composed by Eye of the Boredoms, but the Brooklyn one will be "interpreted" by Gang Gang Dance. Drummers for the event feature stick-wielders from the likes of Pit er Pat, Oneida, Bauhaus, High Places, Hole, Man Man, Sunburned Hand of the Man and The F**king Champs to name but a few. Plus, as you might imagine, a shit-load more.
Also, it's totally free, so all it'll cost you is a whopping great flight ticket over there. Probably massively worth it though, watching on youtube is quite limiting for this sort of thing. However, check out last year's event right here for a great little watch.
