It Hugs Back, Threatmantics & The Temper Trap for Rockfeedback @ The Lexington, London - 12/3/09 - GET TIX HERE!
By: Dan Monsell
Bring in the sunny days of Spring, and bring on the next club night brought to you by Rockfeedback, your neighbourhood online music magazine, televisual programme maker and live concert-promoting conglomerate. We've had some absolutely amazing packed-to-the-rafters shows this month, of quite memorable proportions, and March's extravaganza is an exceptionally buzzy corker set to top all before it. Here we go...
THREATMANTICS - Scruffy Welsh rock trio on Domino Records that mix things up with John Cale inspired violins, and a drummer who doubles up as a keyboardist. They first came to our attention when we discovered their rather witty selves when filming them for that telly programme we do over in East London late last year. Hints of The Birthday party, Clinic and of course, The Velvet Underground here, but a truly original band first and foremost. MYSPACE.
IT HUGS BACK - New on the ever-wonderful 4AD records, UK 4-piece It Hugs Back have been creating all kinds of waves here there and everywhere with their lush, swooning dream-pop full of joyous indie-rock delight and delicate shoegazing melancholia. Their debut album Inside Your Guitar is one of the loveliest albums we've yet to hear this year, and we're all kinds of excited to have these fine young 'uns down for one of our nights. MYSPACE.
STOP PRESS! An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump have had to pull out of this one, but are, we're told, totally amped about playing for us soon - we'll get 'em on the next bill possible, honest.
THE TEMPER TRAP - Selected as part of the BBC's much coveted Sound of 2009 poll at the beginning of this year and this week's NME Radar stars, these greatly hyped Aussies atmospheric rockers plan a brief stop-over to play our night for a special early evening showcase show. Make sure you get down early to catch one of the most hugely anticipated next-big-things to land on these shore for some time - their intricate (Can-esque) rhythms and enormous (U2-size) guitars are set to fill stadiums in the not so distant future... MASSIVE. MYSPACE.
WOW - we're off to have a sit down, that bill's so bloody massive and exciting.
Anyway, moving on, we've only bleeding got a great load of DJs to boot... Playing the best in heavy samba, leftfield disco and itala-house. Or probably just some ruddy great pop songs. Either way it'll make your sneakers move and your ears go "YES!", and maybe even your mouth will do the same thing too.
