May is looking a bit ama(y)zing at the moment. Not only have we got Rockfeedback stages at Hinterland festival and the Great Escape, we've also got two special mid-week shows at the Lexington with the one and only Graham Coxon, and Brooklyn boy spectacular Miles Benjiman Anthony Robinson (both with albums out on our sister label that month). Plus it'll be sunny and stuff.
But now just to top things off, we're pleased to announce that we've also hooked up with one of the world's most independent-thinking, important and wonderful stamps of quality that is a record label, Transgressive Rough Trade records, for a special relaxed Monday evening of a (mostly) acoustic showcase of some of their most exciting artists new and old. Oh we spoil you so... Come down for a very lovely evening indeed, featuring these special musical talents:

Basia Bulat: Montreal-based Basia Bulat makes music full of hooks and handclaps to create a soundtrack perfect for mischievous shenanigans, with live performances often ending with half of the audience on stage and joining in. A rare and exclusive acoustic appearance in the UK for a very special Canadian artist, we first saw her at SXSW last year and thought that she was really bloody good indeed, as we're sure she will be again here.

The Veils: Beginning as a project of frontman Finn Andrews whilst growing up and playing music in New Zealand, Andrews came to London and signed to Rough Trade at the tender age of 16. The Veils have since been based back in New Zealand, and in LA -travelling coast to coast stateside. They have even lived in a garage in Oklahoma, recording music in the Flaming Lips' studio when they got the chance. With this years' release of their latest album Sun Gangs marking the greatest chapter of the band's story yet, the Veils now find themselves a UK-based band full of unique songs of heartbreak and raw, emotive, compelling ballads fit to inspire real devotion -explaining their incredibly loyal and evangelical fanbase. This special label show will consist of a one-off acoustic show from the band.

Joe Worricker: A excitingly individual new artist from London, and a new signing to Rough Trade records, Joe Worricker possesses an oddly captivating and strangely toned vocal reminiscent of Anthony Hegarty (of 'and the Johnsons' fame) that manages to contain both a lifetime of jazz clubs and a youthful originality all in one. Usually accompanied either by relatively sparse piano or a lone guitar, this is a great new artist very clearly on the up.
Tickets will set you back just £6.00 (a sixer) in advance, and you should snap 'em up here quicker than a cheetah at full pelt - http://www.wegottickets.com/event/48674
So to re-cap, that grab bag of loveliness is at The Lexington (96-98 Pentonville Road, London - between Kings Cross and Angel underground stations) on the 18th May 2009, doors from 7.30pm.
