Why is this worthy of my time and money?: Purely to see the amount of ambition these people have, and the way they so spectacularly pull it off against all odds. Once a jangly and decidedly twee propositions, thick rimmed glasses and ill-advised haircuts included, The Decemberists have with 'The Crane Wife' enjoyed something of a marvellous reinvention, where twelve minute epics based on Japanese folk tales and crazily executed prog rock workouts now sit invigoratingly alongside their deft use of melody and glorious, simple melancholia. How the hell they'll attempt to reproduce the many layers and textures of that startling new record live is anyone's guess, and the ABC in Glasgow is the place to find out.
