Why is this worthy of my time and money?: It took us the best part of an hour to get to see Beirut last time we caught a gig of his (Zach Condon's), and we were only on the other side of a field. But such was the quagmire otherwise known as Glastonbury this year, it actually took five seconds to lift one's foot from the mud and place it back down again on the ground, making walking anywhere very difficult. If you wanted to see the all brass parping, all string stroking, all accordion hammering, all ukulele plucking Beirut, you either had to set up camp at the Jazz World stage on day one, or you had to really, really want to be there. As soon as we arrived though, sweating, panting, craving death, the clouds opened, flags blew, 'The Scenic World' wafted in to our ears... it was like climbing Everest only to find that the best gig of your life was taking place at the peak.
