With barely seconds to go until the end of 2008, and oh-nine promising nothing but economic disaster, we thought we might as well start talking about one of the few reasons we aren't trying to convince our friends and family to join us as we commit mass suicide on New Year's Eve - the fact that, come the new annum, some great new bands will still be releasing records.
One such band is Official Secrets Act, four dashing young gents who blend the taut aggressiveness of The Strokes with a distinctively English pop sensibility that hasn't been this exciting since XTC first sat down and stared making plans for exactly what Nigel should be doing with his life. Their debut opus comes out in the early part of next year.
Current holders of Zane Lowe's coveted 'single of the week' award, not to mention a whole five and a half stars out of ten for the very same song when reviewed by ska punk geriatrics Less Than Jake in Rocksound magazine (a brace of results that surely leave the band very confused indeed?), Rockfeedback would first like to add the fact that Zane can ruddy well stop sniffing around our back yard for ace bands because, mate, we were on these guys aaaaages ago (they've starred on a good few RFB bills in '08) before imploring you to get yourselves along to one of the above live dates for what promises to be a particularly celebratory atmosphere as we welcome one of the finest new bands in Britain.
