Rockfeedback @ Hinterland Festival ‘09

By: Chris Pearson

As another Summer draws ever closer the landslide of festivals begins to gradually tumble down the musical mountain towards its Autumnal conclusion; and after Rockfeedback's exclusive blow-by-blow coverage of Texan super-festival SXSW and getting what can only be described as b*lls d*ep in the Camden Crawl last weekend, our appetites have been whetted for more - much more.. Not only do we have a couple of downright fantabulous stages at The Great Escape festival in Brighton come mid-May, but we've also sandwiched in two stages at the inaugural Hinterland festival in Glasgow this week. The group of reprobates that constitutes your favourite online music mag will be winding our merry way up to Scotland to host two ball-bouncingly superb shows in what will be the first multi-venue, single ticket festival to ever grace the fair city of Glasgow, featuring musical contributions from this lot:

DAY ONE: ROCKFEEDBACK @ THE ADMIRAL, 30/04/09

The Invisible

The Invisible [pictured]: A firm RFB favourite who played not only our club night but our Camden Crawl after party, The Invisible manage to combine electronic and organic elements in perfect harmony. They will be following up their Hinterland performance with a string of shows up and down the country, details of which can be found on their MySpace.

Wet Paint: Published by our sister label Transgressive, Wet Paint kicked off the year superbly with the release of their debut album, It Rots chased up immediately with a U.K. tour supporting none other than Bloc Party. One to keep an eye on, these London lads have a penchant for writing enduring rock songs. MySpace.

Jesus H. Foxx: Supporting Crystal Stilts in February and our boy Esser in April, this post-punk sextet have gone from strength to strength since their formation in 2007. Citing Pavement and Deerhoof as strong influences, they have an infectious and well rounded sound which is hard to ignore. MySpace.

Edie Sedgwick: This chaps's unique take on making music and the impetus behind his current album, Sinister and Sinisterer - the dark face of American celebrity culture - makes for compelling listening. Signed to Washington D.C. label, Dischord, Edie pretty much sweats charisma and is not one to be missed. MySpace.

And then on to...

DAY TWO: ROCKFEEDBACK @ GLASGOW ARCHES, 01/05/09

Sons and Daughters

Sons and Daughters [pictured]: Glasgow born and bred, this quartet is aptly headlining our Arches show; expect a memorable performance from a band with a rockabilly heart that combines blackest Americana with broadest Scots. A number of other festival dates await them following their Hinterland showing. MySpace

Slow Club: From the ashes of The Lonely Outfits came Slow Club in 2006. Causing a stir in their native Sheffield, the two-piece who are well-known for their happy-go-lucky tunes (and the wide array of unorthodox percussion instruments they use). Essential viewing ahead of the release of their debut album, Yeah So! this summer. MySpace

Two Door Cinema Club: Triple harmonies, up tempo rhythms and catchy hooks abound from this Northern Irish electro-pop outfit who have only recently finished their latest tour. Single 'Something Good Can Work' should have you out of your seat before you can say "indie banger!" MySpace

Y'all Is A Fantasy Island: This up 'n coming Scottish band will be opening proceedings at The Arches with a welcome burst of rock energy. Having completed three albums in 2008 (that's right, three albums in 2008 - the third was called Infanticidal Genuflector), there's strong evidence to suggest this is a band whose prolificacy will take them far.
