3/7/09 - Hyde Park, London

Why is this worthy of my time and money? Anyone within a 10 mile radius of Worthy Farm on Sunday night doesn't need that question answered, such was the scale of life-affirming well being that Blur cast out to the masses with their headline set at Glastonbury. For anyone that missed the set, shame on you. It was all over the TV and the internet so we don't want to know what you found to watch instead. But don't just take our word for it. Here are some cold, hard facts to convince you that Blur's Hyde Park gigs later this week are not to be missed:
On the Thursday, Foals, Friendly Fires, Crystal Castles and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are all confirmed.
The following day sees Vampire Weekend, Amadou & Mariam, Florence And The Machine, and Deerhoof take to the stage.
Let's take a minute to consider that. Two unique line-ups, ranging from the immediacy of Foals (catch them at The Lexington on July 1st for a taster) to the surreal mastery of the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, the effortless originality of Vampire Weekend to the utter relevance of Deerhoof. You may even recall we were banging on about Deerhoof in the last 'Tour of the Week' and it is no coincidence that they feature again here. We're not just making this stuff up, they're a great band. Blur think so and so do we. It's finally time to leave your comfy chair and see them.
Let's also keep in mind that all these musical shenanigans are taking place prior to the main event. Blur are back, and they're sounding so good that they used a headline slot at Glastonbury as a warm up for these Hyde Park shows. An outrageous claim and it's even almost true. And if Glasto was anything to go by, they won't just be warmed up for Hyde Park, they'll be piping hot and ready to serve out a career spanning set, complete with tears and smiles (it all got a bit emotional for Damon last time round), sing-alongs & moshing and Boys & Girls. Yes indeed, it really, really, really could happen. Just make sure you're there to witness it.
