THE MORNING BENDERS

The Morning Benders are a band from Berkeley, California, formed in 2005, consisting of Julian Harmon, Tim Or, Jonathan Chu, and Christopher Chu. In 2008, they released their debut album Talking Through Tin Cans on +1 Records. Now signed to Rough Trade Records, the band released their Sophmore effort Big Echo in March this year to widespread acclaim. Produced by Chris Chu and Chris Taylor (Grizzly Bear), it boasts a self-proclaimed "family of songs" that range from majestic and jangly indie rock splendour to more stately, smart indie-rock songs to hang your hat on. Coupled with recent tours with the likes of Broken Bells, Grizzly Bear and Yeasayer, the band now find themselves  with a legion of impassioned fans hooked on a fantastic record that to many introduced a wonderfully talented new group. "Big Echo" sees a UK release in June, with a much anticipated UK return.

JONQUIL

Jonquil's self-proclaimed "Paul Simon's take on The Smiths" tag nails them well, however the six-piece also emcompass a level of  intricacy not unlike a more subtle Dirty Projectors without the r 'n' b. There's also an inclusion of a majestic summer flourish of romantic indie-pop very much in the modern tradition - similar to Beach House, Vampire Weekend or Wolf Parade. Emerging initially as the more folky end of Oxford's burgeoning match rock scene that brought us (close friends of Jonquil and recent touring partners) Foals and Youthmovies, Jonquil have constantly evolved and morphed into a very accomplished and mature band with a now newly focused, fresh output of work.

DRY THE RIVER

Rurally raised but now London-based - it has been an odd sort of musical upbringing for the five sons of Dry the River. Whilst today their rattly alt-folk is a rag-tag mixture of Americana, gospel and indie rock, their early collaborations were born of a shared infatuation with late 90s progressive rock. This evolution has produced a mix of heartfelt and classic songwriting, channeling the likes of Paul Simon, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen, imbued with progressive indie-rock tangents indebted to Band Of Horses, Radiohead and close-contemporaries Local Natives. One thing that is without doubt is that the band posses a body of songs ready to win hearts and minds a-plenty, making them a very exciting new addition to the capital's music scene.
