ULTRASOUND

When Tim Smith of the Cardiacs suffered (ironically) a heart attack, Ultrasound were asked to reform for a benefit concert to raise money for him, so at the start of the new decade, the 5 members of Ultrasound met, and with 4 clicks of the sticks, arrived back home. Meeting up at Vanessa Best's East London home - the decision was made to reform and write material for a new album. This sees a special reunion gig in the capital to celebrate. Predominately active in the late 90s, Ultrasound burst into the spotlight with their own blend of 70s prog and glam-infused indie at the height of Britpop, touring to their own large fanbase and with the likes of Placebo and their debut album charting at 23. Although the band's focal point (in particular for reviewers) was their tall, obese singer/guitarist Andrew "Tiny" Wood, the main songwriter was guitarist Richard Green, with the line-up completed by drummer Andy Peace, keyboardist Matt Jones and bass player/second singer Vanessa Best. They split up at the end of the 90s due to tensions in the end. Now back together - this marks a sneak preview of material classic and new for the cult band - former media darlings (Tiny once appeared on the front cover of the Independent for running naked onto the catwalk with the words "Unique" written with make-up on his belly at London Fashion Week), fan faves and legendary characters alike.

Plus support from...

YOUNGHUSBAND

A lifelong obsession with bands like Pavement, the Lemonheads and Grandaddy combined with an ear for melody make Younghusband’s music the perfect antithesis to standard British indie. With the right amount of shoe-gazy lo-fi, sweeps of dreamy melody and metallic scrapes of My Bloody Valentine-esque phased noise, 21 year old Euan Hinshelwood and his band have come a long way from the self penned and recorded demos, undergoing a rapid evolution from half formed ideas to a fully fledged grunge explosion.

The show takes place at The Lexington in London, 96-98 Pentonville Road (Angel or Kings Cross Tube).

THIS SHOW IS NOW SOLD OUT. DOORS ARE AT 8pm
