EVERYTHING EVERYTHING / SLOW CLUB / EGYPTIAN HIP HOP / GAGGLE/ CHEW LIPS (TRANSGRESSIVE & FRIENDS STAGE IN ASSOCIATION WITH ROCKFEEDBACK), LEEDS FESTIVAL

Sunday 29th August, 2010

Alternative Stage

Leeds

2010 marks the fourth year of label/promoters/publishers/managers Transgressive's presence at Leeds Festival. The format is the same each year - audio-visual treats and the best new emerging acts performing intimate shows on the closing night of the festival, from a mixture of Transgressive acts and our friends... We're trying to make it a proper closing night hurrah for those that still have the will and spirit to party very, very hard, carrying long into the night after the headliners have finished on the other stages.

Prior acts to have graced our stage in recent years include Leeds' own hometown heroes Pulled Apart by Horses, Two Door Cinema Club, Future of the Left, Young Knives, Noah & The Whale, Laura Marling, and many more besides. This time, however, we reckon we've got our best line-up yet - the evening is headlined by an exclusive, centrepiece performance from Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, with other acts including manic electronic duo Chew Lips, youthful wizard pop from Egyptian Hip Hop, uplifting soulful pop gems courtesy of Slow Club, and, of course, a 22-piece-all-girl-dubstep-pop-choir in Gaggle.

In between all the live action, Transgressive and Rockfeedback DJs will play big and cool tunes in equal measure, whilst we welcome back both Two Door Cinema Club and Pulled Apart by Horses this year to take part in a 'versus' dual on the decks. Who the hell will win? Stay up late with us and find out.

 09:00 - 09:30 - GAGGLE

Gaggle are a 20 girl strong alt indie choir. Formed as a response to boring man bands, bad burlesque and a means to find an alternative place for women in music that doesn't involve drinking yourself to death out of boredom or anxiety. Bold, aggressive, and alluring, the group signed to Transgressive Records, releasing their debut "I hear Flies" to widespread acclaim in February this year. Live, Gaggle appear in matching colourful robes conducted by band leader Deboarah Coughlin, layering dubstep-infused electronic backing beats behind a chorus of chanting, piercing vocals. After selling out an unforgettable single launch at St. Giles Church, this show sees them debuting new material and taking their remarkable live show to West London's Bush Hall.

10:15 – 10:50 – SLOW CLUB

"Could they be the UKs answer to The White Stripes? Charles And Rebecca Are Slow Club. They hail from Sheffield and are a sort of one man band. Only with two people. He strums guitar and sings and she plays drums and all sorts of weird instruments, like water-filled glass bottles, spoons and the back of a wooden chair. And sometimes an organ called Miles. Not something you get to see and hear every day. The effect is rockabilly and somewhat folksy but thankfully their songs are fairly jolly affairs without a bit of teenage angst in sight." [The Independant On Sunday]

10:50 – 11:15 – TRANSGRESSIVE DJ’S

11:15 – 12:00 – EVERYTHING EVERYTHING

Frantic, searching, muddled, progressive, pop, jazz, RnB and funk, are just some of the words to describe Everything Everything’s wild, synapse illuminating style.  Somewhere between the indie RnB of TV on the Radio and the tropical testicular defying Wild Beasts lies Everything Everything, a band not happy with tags or pigeon holing. They’ve carved their own little musical enclave with front man Jonathon Higgs voice tip toeing acrobatically from modal to falsetto with cryptically speedy thought provoking lyrics, over a constantly evolving movement based conglomerate of musical styles. Sure to be the perfect way to welcome in Monday morning…

12:00 – 12:15 – TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB DJ’S

These frenetic new-wave electronica infused indie-pop protagonists (and excellent chums of ours) will be spinning some of the sickest Tunes since they first brought out those menthol ones that made your nose tingle and your breath smell like your grandad’s.

12.15 - 12.50 - EGYPTIAN HIP HOP

Egyptian Hip Hop are the Horrors grandchildren on prozac, the chill brother band of the Rapture. One of those acts that don't require a lot of analyzing to accept as attention worthy, you just do. To add even more points to their appeal, Sam Eastgate of Late Of The Pier is producing their music! It's Indie Pyra-Pop with Electronic toppings, no Hip-Hop involved.” (ohcrapp.net)

12.50 - 01.15 - DAM MANTLE

Known to his family and friends as Tom Marshall - Dam Mantle is a fresh young innovator from Glasgow making progressive electronic sounds to make you cry, move erratically or smile a mile wide. Live he's joined by another and has recently wrapped up a tour with fellow new music compatriot Gold Panda. Mantle’s glitchy “poems” seem to want to bridge the gap between the usual alienation of electronic music and the mainstream pop music of yore – y’know, when pop songs actually MEANT something.(Line Of Best Fit). Dam Mantle, seems to embrace an amiably all-over-the-map compositional style, EP cut "Rebong" is an exceptionally groovy slice of glitch-hop, with a harp sample not unlike something Flying Lotus would use.

01.15 - 01.50 - CHEW LIPS

“Propelling Chew Lips is a sonic expertise and wizardry that would leave even the most technically minded musician scratching their noggin in an attempt to get to the bottom of the band’s dynamic “ (bbc.co.uk). Bringing in worthy comparisons to The Destructor Herself Karen O, frontwoman Tigs and her band of electro filthsters are joining us as the last live band of the evening. Sexy..

01.50 - 02.30 - PABH VS TDCC DJ's

If you’ve ever speculated on how the world will end, or watched that Nicolas Cage film about being in the know or whatever, you’ll be in no way equipped for this. The End Of Days. We’re already wearing our nappies in preparation.

In between all this mayhem team Transgressive and Rockfeedback will be behind the decks looking bedraglled and ecstatic till the early hours.

Right, hopefully we'll see you there. If we don't, you're probably one of those sensible types who doesn't like having fun.
