First Rockfeedback night of 2011 here - and it comes in the shape of one of our favourite new US bands, Tennis, over for their first ever UK show.

Tennis are Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore, a husband/wife duo. Beginning one day a couple of years ago when Alaina made fun of Patrick for playing Tennis in college, a year later, after months of scrupulous saving, the two fled their hometown Denver to spend eight months sailing and exploring the North Atlantic coast. During their adventures they began writing music together documenting their maritime experiences, inspired by the fact that they had both grown up landlocked. After this the band emerged almost a year ago, and their instantly likable, lo-fi guitar pop has been making waves ever since. Brimming over with catchy melodies, the duo make super-charged tunes full of Phil Spector and Motown references to a pleasantly ramshackle new-school rock and roll of the 10s. Their vibrant pop sound fit perfectly with the current vogue of 50s and 60s influenced sounds, but their delectable melodies and harmonies cast them instead as innocent romantics, adrift on a transient sea. They wash up on these shores for excitingly their first ever UK gig, in preparation for the release of their debut album Cape Dory through Fat Possum on January 18th.
“Wistful girl-groupy harmonies...like Dum Dum Girls playing a low-key set at a beach party.” Pitchfork
“You get a rush of sun and wind in their Spector-esque ’60s girl-group summer pop, especially via Alaina Moore’s buoyant vocals.” Stereogum

LONELY GALAXY
Following a celebrated short run of dates with Perfume Genius in October, Lonely Galaxy has now released his second, EP - 'EP 2' (on Transparent Records) sees Harry Granger-Howell's simple, lamenting ballads continuing to swell (and break) hearts through beautifully orchestrated tales of lost love. Backed by a full band, Howell is a very unique and special artist to watch live, and the future looks bright for this talented young individual
"Songs that deal with emotions, delivered with devastating simplicity, but with enough detail to sustain multiple listens." Guardian
"This could be the start of something very good indeed." Drowned in Sound
"Lonely Galaxy makes falling in love sound like the worst kind of torture" Pinglewood

Hazy romantic pop duo Elephant have recently burst into our attention with an excellent debut double A side release Ants / Wolf Cry. Embracing a cerebral approach to melody and more conventional indie rock there's a touch of Beach House and Beirut alongside some classic motown referencing mid 80s pop. Signed to memphis industries, the band have been picking up a wealth of new music plaudits alongside some radio play, and their future looks very bright indeed.
