Beginning as a solo project for Richie Follin in New York (borther of Madeline Follin - herself one half of Cults), Follin also plays in Willowz, and has also recently found time to release a solo album based on his uncle's second world war stories. Self-proclaimed as "pop-wave-doom", Guards have emerged with a mini album of hugely exciting and very accomplished romantic, gritty shuffled-up high school rock and roll, imbued with the spirit of nineties alt; like Pavement meets The Beach Boys. Recorded essentially as a solo piece (and played live as a full band), we've been really hooked on it, and single "Resolution of One" is of the type ready to take the radio airwaves by storm, single of the year type stuff, whilst the ambition of "Don't wake the dead" and "see it coming" sees an ambitious reach-for-the-stars euphoric melody that's refreshing to see in a band to emerge from the blogs. Interestingly connected as a band too - Caroline Polachek from Chairlift features on one track, James Richardson from MGMT on another, and Follin's step-dad played in Youth Gone Mad and White Zombie, meaning he spent his childhood hanging out with a bunch of other cool bands, and watching Youth Gone Mad and White Zombie. Not a bad education for sure. This sees an eagerly anticipated first UK visit for a band destined for big things.
"They go in the file next to slot below apart from The Verve, because the music has a similar epic but solemn tone to early Ashcroft and Co, Spiritualized because of the churchy organ sounds, and Mercury Rev because of the sense of uplift-from-pain. Really, though, a track like Crystal Truth doesn't sound like anyone except, like we say, C86-meets-1956-prom night, while Long Time could be Primal Scream when they wanted to be The Byrds, only more echoey and fey....high school hop-pop, all sweet and innocent, roughed up and shambling towards dishevelment" The Guardian

Young Buffalo are a 3-piece band from Oxford, Mississippi. The former-moniker of the solo work of Jim barrett, was born in the summer of’09 with the addition of Alex Von Hardberger and Ben Tarbrough. Without much more than song ideas and one booked show, thy began crafting a sound steeped in 3-part harmonies and pounding percussion. Young Buffalo self-released the Catapilah Demo back in 2009 and have then since toured in the US, taking in both SXSW and CMJ 2010. The band signed a US deal with Fat Possum records in May 2010 and have finished recording their debut album with Kyle ‘Slick’ Johnson(Wavves, Cymbals Eat Guitars) at Sweet Tea Studios in Mississippi
"the three-piece boast the kind of catchy melodies and sing-along choruses that made Fleet Foxes music industry darlings way back in the heady days of 2008. Yet, thankfully, songs like ‘Three Deep’ and ‘Catapilah’, which you can a demo of below, also come armed with the type of grit you’d expect from a band desperately trying to break out of town with just 19,000 inhabitants." Gigwise
"Expect a gust of hype to this way come in the new year.." NME

THE HISTORY OF APPLE PIE
New London five-piece The History Of Apple Pie make a fitfully sepia-tinged euphoria of indie rock sounds, embracing suburban Americana and the heady days of British guitar pop. Releasing their first release as a cassette last year, songs like "tug" and "mallory" introduce a band fresh from a Peel Session, combining a dreamy female-fronted essence of Galaxie 500 with the occasional euphoric riffs of Pavement and the more modern indie-pop of Pains Of Being Pure at Heart. A band to awake adoration and unite indie fans the world of, a very endearing new group here making one of their first live appearances despite already having the ears of many.
