Monument Valley is the musical world of London-born Ned Younger. Inspired by classic 1950s rock and roll, Postcard-era indie-pop and the modern poets of hip hop, Younger weaves all his musical touchstones into a passion for timeless story-telling and song-writing. An extremely exciting and talented new UK song writing talent, his first release, the Tongues EP was released November 28 on Tri-tone/PIAS Records. Following national tours with Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Daughter at the end of 2011, as part of a new release in March, Monument Valley will be embarking on his first headline tour of UK in March, and this sees the London date at the intimate Slaughtered Lamb venue.
Despite the expansive moniker, it is under the Monument Valley alias that Younger has created an introspective and articulate EP. The seeds of this project had been unwittingly sewn some time ago, during the accumulation of an extensive collection of strangers’ ‘lost’ photographs, which Younger had gradually amassed from markets and car boot sales. It was whilst surveying the hundreds of anonymous faces of these ‘John Doe’ albums that Younger was struck by the thought which spawned Tongues - to narrate the imagined stories behind these images, and thus to articulate the silent and the unfamiliar.

Raised in West London the eldest daughter of an art therapist mother and a musician father Emily grew up listening to a range of folk, jazz, blues and soul. Although current influences include Fionn Regan, Scott Matthews and Guillemots family favourites such as James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Bill Withers, Tracy Chapman and Simon & Garfunkel provided the sound track to long car journeys. Guitars and pianos provided the sound of home. aking these rich inspriations alongside her own musical discoveries Emily began making music whilst at university, recording her first set of demo's on a whim with friend Laura Marling. The resulting tracks were as soulful and bluesy as they were folky helping the singer to carve her own interesting musical path and leading to shows all around the country as well featuring regularly at the festivals and even becoming a finalist at Glastonbury's Emerging Talent Competition. 2012 is set to be a big year for the singer be sure to catch her early at this show.

Born in Selborne, Hampshire but currently based in Brighton singer songwriter Marika Hackman is one of the most exciting artists we've come across in a very long time. Teaching herself guitar at the tenger age of 12 and surrounding herself with a rich musical history - the likes of Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Led Zeppelin and Simon & Garfunkel were all early influences - have led to Hackman creating a very special musical world in which her lyrical insights and stunning voice, described by one site as a "a post-millennium Nico" serve as the base her inspired and sophisticated tracks.
