A$AP Rocky - Pretty Flacko (Sony/RCA)
06 Jan 2012
“Learning to balance all aspects of his music and personality will be a gradual process, and this track is a tentative first step for rap’s next superstar…”; release - 2012
A$AP Rocky’s mixtape Live Love A$AP had us all saying ‘trilla’ and looking up how much it would cost to have a grill fitted at the end of last year (anything up to about $5000 in case you were wondering), and just when us at Rockfeedback were discussing a time-share scheme for our very own diamond-encrusted beauty, he’s hit us with a fresh track named after his new moniker, ‘Pretty Flacko’.
Of course Rocky hasn’t got to worry too much about money these days, having signed a $3 million record deal on the back of his mixtape (something he alludes to on the track) and needless to say this has boosted his already gigantic ego. It also makes it much easier for us to pick holes in his music, so let’s do that.
The track pushes the vulgarity from his mixtape even further, with the main topics of discussion seemingly being his hoes, his bad bitches and the things he does with them. Production comes from SpaceGhostPurp, but fails to live up to the highest points from Live Love A$AP (most of which came from Clams Casino) and it makes the track feel more like a stereotypical rap song than most would have hoped. Learning to balance all aspects of his music and personality will be a gradual process, and this track is a tentative first step for rap’s next superstar.
