It’s basically Zola Jesus meets Jessie J…”; release -2011

With a press release that includes the phrases “Brit sensation”, “warehouse raves in Hackney” and “Diplo” it’s not hard to see why people are getting excited about Charli XCX, whether they want to or not. She’s only 18, but she’s been playing in bands since she was seven, apparently, and already got one single under her belt, so she’s obviously got plenty of pedigree.

It’s basically Zola Jesus meets Jessie J (there’s your soundbite), with production values that suggest a lot of money has been thrown the young lady’s way, but renders the finished product somewhat devoid of charm... It’s the kind of song that will do exactly what it’s supposed to, get us all moist with anticipation for what comes next without actually being that good. This ploy has worked successfully before, and going on previous evidence it’s probably got an expensive and sexually suggestive video too, but we haven’t checked…yet.
