Christmas with Honey Harper
11 Dec 2019
Glam country troubador Honey Harper picks his favourite festive tunes
This December we're asking some of our favourite artists to create Christmassy playlists for us featuring their favourite festive tunes and we're thrilled to share the first one today. Honey Harper plays cosmic country music and has been compared to the likes of Spiritualized and Merle Haggard by Pitchfork. We're thrilled to welcome him to The Lexington for a headline show in 2020 but in the meantime, stick his playlist on Spotify and get into the festive spirit...
Best Christmas Songs, in no particular order (except that Elvis will forever be at the top of my Christmas list):
1. Elvis Presley - I Believe
2. Elvis Presley - Santa Claus is Back in Town
I couldn’t choose just one Elvis Christmas song and really, I love the whole album. I grew up listening to ‘Elvis’ Christmas Album’ every year while I decorated the tree with my parents. This is definitely one of my best memories growing up.
2. Greg Lake - I Believe in Father Christmas
To be honest, I found this song while trying to make this list and just really loved it …
3. Beach Boys - We Three Kings of Orient Are
Bambi & I found this a few years ago while making a playlist for her parents’ legendary, annual holiday party!
4. Vienna Boy’s Choir - O Holy Night
We just recently went to Austria for the first time last month to play a festival and we got to see and hear the Vienna Boy’s Choir sing this song in a freezing cold, candlelit church. Fun fact: I sampled O Holy Night in my song, ‘Stawberry Lite.’
5. John Denver - Christmas for Cowboys
Johnny D….definitely one of the biggest inspirations on my upcoming debut record ’Starmaker’ coming out next year…lovely tune.
6. Alan Jackson - Let it be Christmas
Classic Al, definitely one of modern country’s number 1 vocal talents!
7. Alabama - Christmas in Dixie
This one is all about the aesthetics, love the production on it, solid tones and it talks about a bunch of different locations so that if you live in one of them you can really relate to it, right?
8. Dan Fogelberg - Same Old Lang Syne
Me and my friends used to listen to this song driving around at night in the Atlanta suburbs in high school singing this song really loud in my black Hyundai Sonata, I think my friend’s dad showed it to us.
9. Randy Travis - White Christmas makes me Blue
Randy Travis is currently my favourite country singer. Such a voice and I think the slick and smooth 80’s production is a nice juxtaposition to really trendy 70’s vibe going on at the moment!
10. Dolly Parton - Hard Candy Christmas
Oh man oh man, Dolly really did it here. This is my new favourite Christmas country song and maybe…it can be yours too?
