Ed Harcourt - Until Tomorrow Then (Heavenly)
18 Dec 2007
"a collection of songs which cannot fail to impress"; release - '07
Ed Harcourt's Until Tomorrow Then is a 'Best Of' collection surmising his efforts for the last 7 years. Whilst Harcourt's career has thus far been glittering, it's not been astoundingly lengthy, thus here's hoping that the 'Best Of' merely signifies a stop gap in which to pause and reflect, rather than something more ominous. If the former is to be assumed then this is a very canny effort by the Sussex born singer/ songwriter. It's fair to say that as one of our best homegrown talents, Harcourt is still criminally undiscovered by a large percentage of the music loving population who are bound to hail him as the next romantic hero.
Part Oberst, Smith and Wainwright, Harcourt's sound is not groundbreaking, but defiantly remains his own throughout the many delights on Until Tomorrow Then. This is testimony to the body of work that has steeped him in such good favour with his fans and contemporaries alike. Drawing from a back collection which offers up a wealth of beautiful songs, stand out tracks include the much-loved 'Apple of my Eye', the delicate 'This One's For You' and earlier great 'Whistle of A Distant Train'.
All in all, Until Tomorrow Then is a collection which cannot fail to impress. If you know and love the man already, then the promise of two new songs will help make it a welcome addition to the memorabilia. If you don't know and love Ed Harcourt, try Until Tomorrow Then and the chances are, you soon will.
