Ima Robot - 'Song 1'

A dousing of Devo enlaced with a sense of the macabre, and a frantic, punk-ish quirk, and - with just their second release - Ima Robot still sound like one of the world's greatest new bands.

And, partly, it's down to a sheer, thunderous lack of inhibition; nothing is out of reach in 'Song 1' - with radar-blipping synths, ferocious drum-action and shaky, contorted vox just a shimmy away in every heart-racing instant. Like the finer things in life too, it ends just before you've been able to truly grasp and fathom it: all the more an incentive for a repeated airing or six...
