Lido Pimienta wins Polaris Music Prize

19 Sep 2017

Colombian-Canadian artist Lido Pimienta has won the 2017 Polaris Music Prize for her album 'La Papessa'.

The Toronto-based, Colombian-born interdisciplinary musician and artist-curator Lido Pimienta wins the 2017 Polaris Music Prize for her album 'La Papessa'.

Considered an underdog contender, the Spanish-language independent release which translates to "high priestess" beat out albums by Leonard Cohen, Feist, BADBADNOTGOOD, 2014 Polaris winner Tanya Tagaq, and others. Last year’s Polaris winner was Kaytranada for his album '99.9%'. He was on hand at the Polaris Gala to award the 2017 honor.

During the awards, Pimienta, Feist, Tagaq, and more performed from their nominated albums.

Lido Pimienta brings her award winning album to Sebright Arms, 1 November.
