San Francisco via New York trio Lemonade have managed to create possibly the most perfect marriage of the two styles  it feels everyone is borrowing from right now, pop and r&b. The kind of pop that ‘Neptune’ nods towards is the golden age of boy bands, with smooth r&b grooves and every other word being “baby”, which is much more enjoyable in hindsight than it was at the time. Callan Clendinen’s vocals are a straight faced imitation of those songs, but are backed by a tight mix of Caribbean drums and slow-moving synth lines that scream chillwave and turn what could have been a cringe-inducing attempt into something completely brilliant. Time to bust out my Boyz II Men tape.
