“It succeeds in drawing an admiring audience closer to their spotlight, while further into detached daydreams thus inspired...”; release – 2011
Sophisticated, sensitive and rather lovely, Look! Stranger’s debut single is a perfect soundtrack to those wistful Autumn afternoons we’re only just getting used to. Leaves, lust, and a fair bit of escapism; all put together in somebody’s attic (apparently), for an intimate and stylish sound.
The Guardian have already dubbed them the “new Wild Beasts” (whom, in their less famous days, once put up a tent for this Rockfeedback scribe, so that can only be a good thing, if sweetness counts for much) – and certainly they share a refreshing sense of playfulness and wonder with the Kendall four-piece.
‘Kept it Alive’ is particularly mesmerizing, and surprisingly polished for a track mixed in a little loft in West London. At times it is melancholic, at other moments uplifting and whimsical – reminding me of Air and even These New Puritans, at times, too.
Kept It Alive follows naturally from their delightful summer E.P., If You’re Listening and succeeds in drawing an admiring audience closer to their spotlight, while further into detached daydreams thus inspired.
