Nadia Tehran premieres her new single "Down"

Iranian-Swedish artist Nadia Tehran debuts her new song “Down” today via YEAR0001.

Produced by Tehran with DJ Haydn and Patrick Alvarsson, “Down” is the first new offering since her debut EP Life Is Cheap, Death Is Free, which i-D Magazine praised as a “powerful statement on race and immigration.” “Down” is Tehran’s first release from her upcoming debut album, set to release before summer 2019.

Growing up in a Muslim Iranian family in a small Christian town in the middle of Sweden, Nadia Tehran was seemingly destined to explore the limits and boundaries of personal and political identity—right in the gap between systems and beliefs, belonging nowhere and everywhere equally.

Coming up through rap from a foray in punk with a modus operandi of “I Am What I Do, And I Do What I Want,” Tehran’s work is a simultaneously supercharged and burnt out display of anti-authoritarianism, endless highs and chaotic heartbreak; a thorny yet ecstatic experience on unoccupied territory.

Tehran’s battle-ready juxtaposition of DIY pop, frantic electronics and enthralling, fragile melodies is a mixture of musical nuances that inevitably reflects the approach that she’d rather raise her voice than lower it.
Tehran is set to perform at the YEAR0001 Official SXSW showcase on March 14, 2019 alongside Yung Lean, Bladee, Merely, Thaiboy Digital and V**gra Boys.
