NEW MUSIC THURSDAY #12
29 Oct 2020
We’re sharing NEW MUSIC THURSDAY featuring recent discoveries, new acts we're currently listening to and our tips for the future. Now more than ever we feel it’s so important to mine the corners of the internet to find some of the wonderful creativity that abounds… Check them out here
Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based artist KeiyaA has shared a video for I! Gits! Weary!, a track from her self-released full-length project Forever, Ya Girl. Forever, Ya Girl was released independently back in March of this year. All tracks were written and produced by KeiyaA herself with some additional production from dj blackpower (aka rising NYC rapper MIKE) and DJ Cowriiie. Check out the video here.
London-based artist Lake Turner (aka Andrew Halford) has released his debut abum “Videophere” on Kompakt - it is both humble and grandiose, a glimpse of the other behind the sky’s curtain. The lush ambient-disco-techno dreams of Videosphere were constructed and completed in his London studio and at his parents’ arable and sheep farm in Worcestershire, which might help explain the hazy, unhurried pastoralism of the album. We urge you to check out his LP!
We already told you about Olivia Dean during London lockdown earlier this year and couldn't resist to share with you her last single "ECHO". Hailing from Walthamstow, Olivia Deans’s voice is undeniable but it’s her youthful Friday-night-down-the-pub storytelling that really sets her apart.
We've been lucky to have the chance to have Maya Law play for a few of our shows - we remember her set supporting upcoming jazz artist Lucy Lu at Camden Assembly well but also with American wonder DAWN at The Jazz Cafe. From Norfolk, Maya recently released her single "Say It Ain't So" which is an introduction to the self proclaimed "break up EP" - set to hit listeners before the end of the year!
Tipped as "one to watch" by NME, Mixmag and DJ Mag, TSHA is a London based producer who is quicky emerging as one of the most exciting young artists coming out of the capital. We discovered her back in 2018 with her single "Sacred", and she has now recently released two more acclaimed singles out on Ninja Tune: "Change" / "Sister" - listen now!
We have followed Deep Tan for a while and remember their incredible set supporting Brooklyn band Crumb at The Dome well. Hackney-based, Deep Tan unveil their first new single of 2020, ‘deepfake’, which is out now via Practise Music (Squid, Woman's Hour, Delmer Darion, Meadow Meadow). Go check them out!
MARTHA SKYE MURPHY
We told you about Martha Skye Murphy a few months ago when she released her wonderful EP 'Heal'. She's now back with a new single "Self Tape". Growing up in London amongst a creative family and later studying History of Arts has had a huge impact on Murphy’s creative perspective. Back in 2013 she also collaborated with Nick Cave on his "Push The Sky Away" album. We can't wait to hear more from her.
