Wooze announce debut EP and shares a new single!
British/Korean duo WOOZE today announce their debut EP ’what’s on your mind?’, due for release by Young Poet Records on 3rd May. The first track to be revealed from the EP is the brilliant ‘I’ll Have What She’s Having’, with ‘Cousin Paul From Paddington’ and ‘Zeus’ Masseuse’ to follow in the coming weeks.
Theo Spark and Jamie She formed WOOZE in 2017. The band’s name is a rough phonetic translation of ‘space’ in Korean (우주). Thematically, WOOZE’s lyrics are rooted in the uprooted - memory loss, identity crises and ultimately, a fundamental feeling of detachment and estrangement. Describing themselves as heavy pop, galactic rock and Pansori for the 21st Century (a traditional Korean music genre that consists of a drummer and singer storytelling through music),WOOZE are here to baffle, excite and entertain.
Of the single, Theo Spark and Jamie She say;
“This song is about the grass being greener on the other side from the perspective of someone standing on a circle. We're both really fascinated by different societal expectations and cultural standards of success and how something that's actually so intimate and subjective, ie. one's own success and self worth, is dictated by the masses.
There is no right or wrong way in our opinion. At the same time there's this massive spectrum between something like the hikikomori phenomenon in Japan and someone like Kendall Jenner and Fyre festival - this song is us perching ourselves on the fence and observing the pendulum swinging to and fro.”
