Plugs, Underground Railroad, Flashguns & Fireworks Night for Rockfeedback @ The Lexington, London, 1

31 Dec 2008

the first rfb show of the year, and the first to take place at our new venue/office/party-space, comes in the shape of a special 'sounds of '09' night, in which we pick four bands we reckon will spend at least the next 365 days being totally mega cool.

Following on from a quite frankly fantastic 2008 with the likes of Metronomy, Black Kids, Foals, Four Tet and many more playing various Rockfeedback shows, we move once again to an amazing newly opened venue, The Lexington in Islington (which our sparkly offices now reside above) for a special "sounds of 09" show, featuring a total monster of bill of exciting new bands and DJS at a foolishly low door price. Crikey, we're good to you. Here's just how good...

PLUGS - Plugs feature Morgan, front man of Does It Offend You, Yeah?, a band whom he was never an official member of but spent the majority of last year touring with. They are however an altogether different animal in sound, and in short are one of the most exciting new wave electronic pop trios in this fair land and beyond. Full of big afro-grooves, huge songs and ear bending experimentation a plenty, these lot are TOTALLY big tips of ours for massive things in '09. Catch 'em here first.

Underground Railroad

UNDERGROUND RAILROAD - Fantastic Parisian alt-rockers now on One Little Indian Records - reminiscent of New York's Sonic Youth dominated No Wave scene, the band have developed a passionate fan-base on both sides of the Atlantic. Recent shows have been with the likes of The Thermals, Deerhoof (reviewed HERE) and Stereolab, and we grab them here before they set off on tour in Europe.

FLASHGUNS - Hotly tipped new wave popsters at the centre of a gigantic buzz, these youngsters are big ones to watch for '09. Armed with great songs and ferocious on-stage energy aplenty, they're set to win a nation of hearts and minds. Just watch 'em go... and whilst you do so, check our interview feature HERE.

Fireworks Night

FIREWORKS NIGHT - Theatrical alt-folk from a London ensemble currently causing quite a stir. There's echoes of Nick Cave here, and their unique orchestral pop has won them fans from the likes of Colin Murray to a significant chunk of the music press.

DJs - OFFICIAL SECRETS ACT, TIGER (THIS IS MUSIC),ROCKFEEDBACK residents and more special guests playing your favourite mix tape classics and a whole lotta Peter Gabriel until LATE. There will also be Rockfeedback TV projections and goodie bags for the first 50 people through the door.

So, that's all taking place from 8pm-2am on Thursday the 15th of January 2009 at The Lexington, 96-98 Pentonville Road, London, N1 9JB. The nearest tube station is Angel, but Kings Cross ain't too far either. As for tickets? WOW! It's only £5 in advance from WeGotTickets HERE.
