South London revivalists INHEAVEN have already been endorsed by The Strokes frontman Julian Cacablancas as ones to watch and embarked on a hefty UK tour earlier this year with the The Big Moon & Vant via DIY Magazine. We wanted to catch up with them ahead of their London show supporting Cheatahs early next year at XOYO on the 19th January. More info on that: HERE.
RFB: How did INHEAVEN as come about, were their any other projects or bands before we came to know and hear of your music as it is now?
INHEAVEN: We were all writing for a long time before we formed INHEAVEN. It came together very naturally- there were no new bands we really identified with so we decided to make what we thought that band was.
RFB: Where do you all most like to write & create your songs?
INHEAVEN: We started writing in our flat in Forest Hill, and pretty much every song has been written there. Ideas seem to come very easily right now, it doesn’t matter what the location looks like.
RFB: The DIY tour looked like your first big tour as a band, how did it go for you all?
INHEAVEN: We love being on tour. Looking forward to next year when we will be playing a lot more live shows.
RFB: Do you manage to find time to write at whilst all on tour & what do you guys always end up listening to in the van?
INHEAVEN: We haven’t really been away for extended periods of time to get really into the thick of writing on the road. But ideas are always popping up. We always write bits of lyrics or melodies down when they come to us. Many things... Mostly the classics, Siamese Dream, Surfa Rosa, London Calling etc to get us in the mood.
RFB: What's the music scene like for upcoming bands like yourself at the moment in South East London?
INHEAVEN: Pretty bleak. We exist in our own sort of world, with most of the songs coming out of frustration, isolation and loneliness.
RFB: Can you introduce us to three or four artists that you are really liking at the moment from the area or elsewhere that you think we should be listening to?
Thanks to INHEAVEN for taking the time to answer these! Check out their brilliant new single Bitter Town below and be sure to catch them supporting Cheatahs on January 12th! Tickets & info: bit.ly/1Exjw93
