Rockfeedback is proud to announce the return of Illuminations with an exciting series of uniquely curated music and arts events.
Now in its third year, Illuminations today reveals its inspiring programme of creative acts, events and films that will take place in various venue spaces across London between 27th October - 7th November, 2014.
This year features another diverse line-up of international artists including Sebastien Tellier, Shabazz Palaces, Halloween Horror Films at The Barbican scored live with original composer Fabio Frizzi and a one-off collaborative show with Melt Yourself Down and James Chance.
In a special new addition, the festival will also feature a music film series in partnership with The Hackney Picturehouse. Sam Cuthbert, a manager at Hackney Picturehouse and guest film programmer with Illuminations curator Daniel Monsell has said:
'Partnering with the Hackney Picturehouse on this strong lineup of films and events is a dream come true. The cinema since it opened has built up a reputation for championing music and moving image in different ways, from premiering titles like LCD Soundsystem's 'Shut up and Play the Hits', hosting live scores and playing extended runs of music documentaries. Bringing the Illuminations Festival under our roof for this series of events will give audiences the chance to view music differently. There's a world of creative talent using music as their foundation and I'm excited to be able screen a small cross section of it on the big and loud cinema screen.’
On the schedule are “Wild Combination”, a moving portrait of the mythical Arthur Russell, as well as the much-celebrated Fugazi documentary “Instrument”. The series will also feature a night dedicated to the music-themed Random Acts strand of programming on Channel 4 – featuring films for the likes of Savages, David Shrigley and Jacques Greene. Finally there will be a night dedicated to MTV’s 120 Minutes. This last event will be a one-off special, focusing on the ‘most-shocking, sensational and banned videos’ from that time, timed aptly on the day before Halloween.
More events and films will be announced in the coming weeks.
Artist information and ticket links:
SEBASTIEN TELLIER
Sebastien Tellier, the Parisian master of chords and melody, whose identity might be found in the triangle between genius, eccentric and enigma, returns this year with his extraordinary new album L’Aventura. Spend a special night with Tellier at London’s Village Underground, November 4th.
SHABAZZ PALACES
The intense vibrations that sound from Seattle’s Shabazz Palaces are back and set to hit hard for a special Illuminations performance. An act with a truly ambitious and highly visual show, the new album was recently launched with a laser-infused performance in an Observatory in their native Seattle. This show sees a special warehouse-based set at The Laundry in London Fields, November 4th.
FABIO FRIZZI
One of the undisputed masters of Italian horror soundtracks, Fabio Frizzi celebrates his special partnership with the late ‘Godfather of Gore’, director Lucio Fulci. Joined by the F2F Orchestra, the Alauda String Quartet and vocalists, he performs his dark and brooding scores to worldwide splatter sensations like Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979) and other blood soaked epics such as Seven Notes In Black, The Beyond, City Of The Living Dead, Manhattan Baby and more. Spend Halloween at the Barbican, 31st October.
MELT YOURSELF DOWN & JAMES CHANCE
A recent meet-up in New York between London multi-genre explosion Melt Yourself Down and key no-wave figure James Chance (The Contortions, James White And The Blacks), yielded a planned collaboration. November 5th at Village Underground sees this premiered in London, as James Chance – not seen in the UK for over four years – is backed by Melt Yourself Down.
TIckets will be available Thursday 17th July at 9am.
