So long, 2009: 10(+1) of the best from Rockfeedback TV

31 Dec 2009

we’ve been reading a lot of talk about how the end of the decade has been something of a damp squib music-wise.  when we asked our in-office staff to vote for their favourite rockfeedback tv programmes of 2009, we found we couldn’t disagree more.  here’s proof that it’s been brilliant.

We’ve been reading a lot of talk about how the end of the decade has been something of a damp squib music-wise. When we asked our in-office staff to vote for their favourite rockfeedback tv programmes of 2009, we found we couldn’t disagree more. Here’s proof that it’s been brilliant.

Rockfeedback Presents - Wildbirds & Peacedrums
Swedish husband and wife duo perform in the round amidst a twenty-strong drum circle as part of Nomad’s Ritual for Elephant and Castle.

Lightning Bolt – On Stage @ Primavera Sound
The Rhode Island noise-rock duo perform their first ever set on a stage (normal for most bands, but particularly weird for this pair) at what was probably our favourite festival of the year.

J Tillman – Rockfeedback Session
The first ever Rockfeedback Session, filmed in the Lexington venue beneath our London office, found Josh Tillman and his band in the form of their lives.

S.C.U.M – On Stage @ Camden Crawl
Wise beyond their years doom-mongerers S.C.U.M. are masterminds of both the Underage Festival and synth-heavy, futuristic goth. 2010 is theirs if they want it.

Mumford and Sons – Rockfeedback Session
Marcus Mumford’s band of banjo plucking, mandolin strumming, waistcoat-sporting troubadours set up below the Rockfeedback offices to showcase tracks that, within days of this recording, would earn them a top ten album.

Graham Coxon – On Location @ SXSW
We manage to get over the fact that we were working with GRAHAM COXON FROM BLUR just in time to capture a set of exclusive acoustic performances of songs from his The Spinning Top LP in a hat shop on Austin’s Sixth Street, and a few more at Waterloo Records just up the road. A revealing chat about “girls, love and magic” takes place on the walk in between.

HEALTH – On Stage @ Tufnell Park Dome
Talking hearing loss and childbirth with L.A.’s noise rock poster boys.

Jess Bryant – Rockfeedback Session
As haunting and personal a collection of songs as you’re ever likely to hear performed – an eye kept on this girl is an eye that’s doing important work.

Sonic Youth – On Stage @ Primavera Sound
‘Hey Joni’, songs from new LP The Eternal, Lee Ranaldo’s enormous bulging eyes and a chat on the nature of finance and longevity from very possibly the greatest band ever ever ever.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – On Stage @ Club Rockfeedback
Wayne Coyne meets John the Baptist in this fantastical multi-membered combo, who gave us one of the finest Rockfeedback club nights of the year.

Rockfeedback Presents - Pysetock
OK, so this didn’t technically happen in 2009. But few people had seen it ‘til this year. And it’s too good to hide. We break in to an abandoned engine test hall with Blacksand, and play an impromptu gig.
