22-20s - '05/03' (Heavenly)
4/5

With only one release thus far to their name - April's limited edition UK single 'Such A Fool' - young rock tykes 22-20s have built a reputation ye olde fashioned way: by showing up and plugging in. Their short, blistering live-sets are already becoming legendary; 25 minutes that mask their youth - the trio are barely outta their teens - and hometown (Lincoln, England) in dirty blues like they used to make down the American south.
So 22-20s' label, realizing the aural gold being churned nightly out of singer/guitarist Martin Trimble's guitar, have decided to bottle the magic in this here live EP. Brilliant move. '05/03' basically presents the band's set as it was in May 2003 (hence the name, though written to appeal to the American market) and it's a stormer.
Opener 'Devil In Me' sets the tone straight away with a guitar being tuned before launching into a driving riff that would make a deaf man sway. Likewise the chorus of 'Got Messed Up' and the whole of their still-crowning moment, 'Such A Fool', which is even more booming live than on wax. Other original tracks 'I'm The One' and '22 Days' are also included, before Muddy Waters' 'King Bee' gets shredded in equally glorious fashion - sounding like The White Stripes' 'Ball and Biscuit' with all the slow bits ripped out.
Your mission, then: check this band live. Now. And then buy this souvenir for the other remaining 364 days of the year.
