Yourcodenameis:Milo - They Came From The Sun (V2)

4/5

By: Gareth Roberts

Yourcodenameis:Milo - They Came From The SunCombining the melodies of Morrissey with the monolithic guitars of Muse sounds like a match made in heaven (or maybe hell...), but it proves to be the former on 'Pacific Theatre', the opening track on YourcodenameisMilo's (hope I've typed that correctly) second album; 'They Came from the Sun.'

YCNI:M (well, you didn't expect me to type it again did you?) are one of those bands that don't seem to receive the adoration they deserve, which is a shame, because as bands go, few are as versatile and open to new direction as these guys. 'All That Was Missing's' addictive drum beat leads into a song littered with enough ideas to put lesser bands to shame, whilst still providing an enjoyable listen.

This knack of producing tunes is clearly not a one off, as each track on the album proves. Its always been a trait of this band that they are (quite bloody rightly) more concerned with creating something special than shifting units, however they have seemed to reach a stable middle ground here that should see them gain further respect from their devoted admirers whilst also gaining more than a few more along the way.

From the Queens of the Stone Age style riffage of 'Understand', through to the almost (indie) disco romp of 'I'm Impressed', the synth heavy monster that is 'About Leaving', and the imagination incarnate of 'To the Cars'; this album abounds with the variation and confidence that should be enough to earn YCNIM some sought after spots on this summer's festival circuit, as well as affording them the support they have long deserved.
