iLiKETRAiNS - Elegies to Lessons Learnt (Beggars)
Perky Scouse-pop trio The Wombats recently released a single entitled 'Let's Dance To Joy Division', whose chorus implored the listener to shake their thang to the magisterial Macclesfield doomeisters and, in doing so, 'appreciate the irony.'
Even with the greatest post-modern will in the world, getting funky to any of these iLiKETRAiNS' 12 grim historical yarns chronicling death and destruction down the ages would be a satirical shenanigan too far, even for the most devoted alt-rock prankster.
Resembling a heavily-sedated Interpol fronted by Nick Cave, ILikeTrains hail from Leeds but are unlikely to employ Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs to provide guest 'WOOOOOOOOOAAAHS!!!' any time soon. On their debut LP, 'The Voice of Reason' isn't a million miles away from the stadium busting rock of Editors or even Coldplay, whilst the uproarious 'We Go Hunting' wouldn't feel out of place on Arcade Fire's 'Funeral.'

Future of the Left - Curses (Too Pure)
If you've ever had to subdue a nagging suspicion that contemporary indie these days amounts to little more than regurgitated mediocre Britpop and lukewarm Libertinezzz rip-offs, then the snarling, gleefully unhinged pandemonium of erstwhile Cardiff noiseniks McLusky and Jarcrew under their latest enterprise, Future of The Left, comes highly recommened.
The hysterical 'Fingers Become Thumbs' sounds like The Young Knives covering Muse whilst Gogol Bordello ply them incessantly with hard liquor, whilst hilarious menace of 'F*** The Countryside Alliance', 'Small Bones Small Bodies' and 'Wrigley Scott' combine to create an unconventionally brilliant brouhaha.
