Los Campesinos! - Hold on Now Youngster (Wichita)
4/5

The debut album from these much talked about darlings of the indie music scene certainly doesn't disappoint.
From the very start the vocal male/female interplay on 'Death to Los Campesinos!' kicks off a thoroughly energetic record in fine style. The fact that they are barely old enough to drink is utterly evident throughout - only those of this certain age can sound this contagiously enthusiastic. It's almost as if they've had too many Skittles at a sleepover and are now bouncing off the walls and whacking each other with pillows and what not.
The songs possess an undeniable charm, in fact they do a more than credible job of crafting some of the most quintessential sounding pop songs in recent memory. Granted, the immaturity is at times evident, yet that only adds to the appeal really.
Furthermore, as well as sounding quite excellent, the songs have some of the best titles I've ever come across, 'This is how you spell "ha ha ha, we destroyed the hopes and dreams of a generation of faux-romantics" and 'we are all accelerated readers' being cases in point.
Overall, a wonderfully exuberant record that will leave you feeling as young as they are.
