Har Mar Superstar - 'You Can Feel Me' (B-Unique)
4/5

Weighing in at a slim half-hour - comparatively, far less endowed than the star behind it - Har Mar Superstar is the latest, 'Holy heck - what the hell is that?' sensation of the music-world.
A white rapper, with an aptitude to strip in promo-videos and live-performances alike, Har Mar - real name, the somewhat less sensual Harold Martin Tillmann - sings soul and contemporary R 'n' B distinctly like Steve Wonder (a resemblance excelled by his live covers of said artist), yet ruins the sexuality somehow via his conventionally 'unattractive' appearance (a mullet, occasional moustache, hairy ass, etc.). In spite of this, musically - aside from the comical irony noted in the lyrics and thieved subject-matter - HMS has created a debut-LP that deserves to surpass the irreverence of his associated image.
Opening with a must in all such urban-records - an 'intro', featuring a not so particularly heartfelt thank-you to the listener for purchasing his record - Har Mar launches into frightfully groove-based, kick-off single 'Power Lunch' whilst endeavouring to appear sweat-drippingly alluring in the likes of the boogie-beauty of 'We Could Be Heavy', or sumptuous 'Freedom Summer' (a track that actually demonstrates his impressive vocal-range, without too many sensationalist lyrical-references).
Elsewhere, 'HARMAR' is a defiant, anthemic lurch of girlie backed-up enticement, and 'One Dirty Minute' segues into the impacting, sole drum-beat of 'No Chorus' - a further chance for our 'Superstar to spit rhymes at a frivolously filthy pace, only slowing down for smooch-a-thon body-rubber 'Love Jam No. 1', and cuttingly cheesifying proceedings for a vocoder-drenched 'Let's Get This Party Kickin'. Resting in a final 'EZ Pass', the experience may have been a short one, yet one you'd have to be either dull or boring alike to not replicate.
As a moment in time, 'You Can Feel Me' serves as an imposingly wondrous and enjoyable body of work; with a bit of luck, the humour of such a formula will extend beyond just one release.
