Punching dents into the often maligned and over self-titled electro-funk-crunk scene takes a certain amount of innovation, or at the least a break for something new. This collaboration of Canadian producer Graham Zilla and rapper Isis serves as a lesson in the dangers of repeatedly banging your head against a breeze block wall.

Although the simple, glossy beats on Thunderheist's debut record feel they've been heard before, this fails to detract from the quality of production. It is the lifeless, undistinguishable rhyming of the project's front woman which see the album plummet as a muddle of nineties house and female hip-hop.

Comparisons with cross genre artists such as Missy Elliot are obvious but should be bitterly upsetting to the five-time grammy winning hip-hop innovator. Isis lacks the conviction, humour or verve in her tired semi-rap to warrant even a shadowy likeness. Her attempts at sexual provocation and single syllabic catchphrase only serve to highlight the gulf between Sunday night house fodder and dance floor filler.

Unfortunately my moronic Yorkshire twang and insistence on pronouncing many words with a t' in front for no apparent reason means that I am unable to ramble inanely over the products of a disco funk t'fusion. Clearly others are not held back.

Second track 'Nothing 2 Step 2' displays the singer's real vocal range and is a welcome escape from the bawdy pop of the album's entirety. Single 'Jerk It' and arse shaker 'Bubblegum' parade Thunderheist's commercial lean, but also prove there is a real market for their buzzing uncomplicated disco.

Girls dabbling in amphetamines and shiny legging'd teens will dance to this. They may buy a copy. They may tell their friends they haven't been so emotionally liberated by a band since CSS afforded them the opportunity to dance like idiots and wear fluorescent make-up. That in itself means this will be surely be a success.
